License Terms
When you purchase Wing IDE, you are purchasing a license to use the product in certain ways. Your rights are summarized as follows:
- Each license is for one user working on the licensed number of operating systems (Windows, Linux, or OS X). Each operating system license covers all versions and distributions of that operating system. Additional licenses are needed for each additional user or operating system. Discounted multi-OS packages are available for developers using more than one operating system.
- Wing IDE Personal and Wing IDE 101 are for non-commercial use only, and may not be used for activities that produce income.
- You may not redistribute, sell, or rent your licensed rights to the product. However, a company that purchases a license may reassign that license from time to time as employees come and go or roles change, provided that prior users of a license cease to use it once it has been reassigned.
- Licenses may be upgraded at any time from Wing IDE Personal to Pro or to add licensed operating systems by paying the price difference between the original and upgraded license.
- You may use the debug process support modules on any operating system for the purpose of remote debugging with a licensed copy of Wing IDE. No additional license is needed for this purpose.
The first time you start Wing, you will be presented with the full license text (also available below), and the software will not run until you have agreed to its terms.
License Activation
Each Wing IDE user may run Wing on as many machines as needed for their own work, for all the operating systems which they have licensed. In order to reduce casual license sharing, which is a unfortunately a problem for small businesses like Wingware, licenses must be activated after installation on each machine.
We've worked hard to make this flexible and forgiving for valid customers. For example, reinstalling an OS and/or altering hardware usually should not break your activation. Also, activation can be done directly from Wing IDE and off-line activation is available if your machine does not have TCP port 80 (http) access to wingware.com. Each license is allowed three activations by default and more can be obtained on request from identifiable customers.
As a fall-back in emergencies, Wing will run for 10 minutes at a time without any license or activation at all, or a trial license period can be used until any license problem is resolved.
Source Code Usage
Wing IDE Professional includes access to product source code (requires non-disclosure agreement). Source use rights are summarized as follows:
- You may make alterations and improvements to the product source code as long as you don't try to defeat our license validation code or remove our copyright or trademark.
- You may distribute any changes you make to the Wing IDE Professional source code, in the form of patch files or in other forms that don't include substantial parts of our product. These can be open source or commercial at your discretion and we have no special rights to them.
- If you compile Wing IDE Professional on another operating system, you must purchase an additional license for that operating system.
